1. Use a hose or rope to make an outline of area.
2. Mow or use a weed-eater.  Wait at least 4 days before using Roundup.
3. Use Roundup to kill what is there.
Roundup is not a quick fix.  It takes 7-10 days to work.  Take your time when using Roundup and do a good job so you make sure that you have covered the entire area.
4.  You can mulch if you know you did a good job - or you can wait 7 days to make sure you killed everything.

Mulching Your Area

5. Plant area to be mulched
6. You can apply Preen herbicide if  you feel you need to.  Apply under mulch and on top. Preen will stop germination of weed seeds.
7.  Then mulch with using 3-4” of mulch.
Use a plant friendly mulch of some type.  (Rock is not friendly)

At The Petal Patch, we promote Soy - E- Mulch.  Soy-E-Mulch is environmentally friendly, economical, and easily available, and it enriches the soil.
